The Xbox Showcase 2025 took place yesterday, and while many games made their appearance, such as High On Life 2 and Grounded 2, there was a big surprise to close the conference. A three-minute trailer revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to the world.
The new game, developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, is billed as "the next evolution of Black Ops", and the story of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 takes place forty years after Black Ops 6.
The year is 2035, and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and the psychological warfare that played such an important role in the franchise's previous installments. With the help of cutting-edge technology, David Mason and his team must wage a fierce battle against an enemy that has no qualms about using fear as its main weapon.
The trailer also shows a company of robots with advanced capabilities. But also holograms, motorized machines and a neon city. So, this new game will be set in the future, with a cooperative campaign mode, multiplayer and the return of the famous zombie mode.
Matt Cox, Call of Duty's General Manager, has more to say about the new game: “The Black Ops universe is incredible. The creativity and imagination behind the narrative, the richness of the characters and the incredible moment-to-moment playability in all game modes are truly exceptional. As a team, our vision from the outset has been to create a back-to-back series experience for our players, taking into account the uniqueness of the Black Ops sub-franchise”.
For his part, Tyler Bahl adds: “Offering two consecutive Black Ops games also gives our teams the opportunity to tap into their own creativity, but also to integrate the shift from a 90s setting to a new 2035 setting into our marketing framework".
However, no official release date has been revealed, and we'll have to wait for further details to find out when Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation® 5, PlayStation® 4, and on PC via Xbox PC, Battle.net and Steam. And if you want to play the game as soon as it's released, you'll need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
