After the surprise reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at Xbox Showcase in June, more information and footage have been presented at Gamescom. The developers have shared insights on what they’ve changed this time around and there seems to be quite a lot, including the ability to choose a difficulty for the campaign, which can be played in singleplayer or co-op.
In an interview with IGN, associate creative director at Treyarch, Miles Leslie, confirmed that the difficulty is baked in and not user adjustable. “We've built it for solo or four-player squads as well. You cannot pick a difficulty like past games. We've baked it in because you have to approach a co-op campaign differently, and we wanted to make sure the missions felt right for solo players — we're not forgetting about you, we love you — but also because it is a social experience we want to make sure it's fun, but the right amount of challenging for two, three, and four players as well,” Leslie explained.
Till now, Call of Duty games have had Recruit, Regular, Hardened, and Veteran difficulty levels and a lot of gamers like to challenge themselves by playing the campaign at the hardest difficulty. Some also like to experience the game at Regular or Hardened and then switch to Veteran for their second run. That won’t be possible with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
Furthermore, it was also revealed that the final campaign mission for Black Ops 7 will be a “replayable experience where you and your squad will need to survive overwhelming odds, adapt under pressure, and break the rules of what you thought a Black Ops campaign could be.” It will include up to 32 players in a server for a PvE experience and some possible PvP elements as well.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 releases November 14 and it will be going against Battlefield 6 which will be out October 10. The Activision title will face strong competition seeing as how successful the open beta for the EA offering has been.
