Meizu has just announced that reservations for its next premium smartphone have opened in China, with free gifts such as new magnetic Pandaer cases and "365" repair support. However, the actual launch of the 22 has been pushed back again, to September 2025 this time.
An official missive from Meizu urges fans to hold out for the 22 while the company updates "13 algorithms" backed to give the device the best cameras in its compact flagship category.
(The letter also hints strongly at 10x zoom support in the 22, as opposed to predictions of 3x thus far - although the highest setting might be digital rather than optical.)
The 22 is indeed now confirmed to launch with a 6.3-inch display - which is now depicted as having white bezels, whereas those of all of its rivals such as the OnePlus 13T are the standard black.
That atypical feature might be a homage to Meizu smartphones that are still remembered as design wins and, like them, would have screen borders that would really stand out were they not so thin.
They are projected to be no more than 1.2 millimeters (mm) in the Meizu 22, a screen upgrade that is also thought to feature in next-gen flagships such as the Xiaomi 16.
The extra-thin-bezel "white panel" would go well with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, in the opinion of the prolific leaker Smart Pikachu - however, it might be too late for the 22 to escape impending irrelevance by switching from the pre-existing first-gen Elite.
The Meizu 23, on the other hand, might be better prepared to pounce on the combination of a compact build, a unique display and the latest flagship Qualcomm silicon in the next product cycle.
