Meizu has enlisted a humanoid robot to conduct drop tests on its next new smartphone. The Note 16 Pro is rated for IP66 and IP68 water- and dust-resistance, and has been shown to withstand a bath even in hot water. The handset has a fairly standard design - unlike its upcoming flagship counterpart, according to the latest rumors.

The Meizu Note 16 Pro's build quality has been upgraded with the TÜV, IP66 and IP68 ratings necessary to help it survive drops, shocks and immersion in water (even if it is steaming at the time). Accordingly, the brand felt confident in testing this new-found durability to inhuman degrees - literally.

The official Note 16 Pro drop test video stars a Unitree G1 rather than a vlogger, giving the bipedal robot the chance to add throwing a smartphone off a 35 meter high building to its list of skills (alongside boxing and kung fu).

The smartphone apparently survived the ordeal intact, which allows us to confirm its looks: quite like that of a new Vivo mid-ranger, with its round camera hump complete with ring-flash.

The upcoming Meizu 22 series, on the other hand, is now backed to have a very different camera hump. The putative line of flagship smartphones is also tipped to follow the compact trend and to have potentially improved rear camera specs.

It is not predicted to launch until July 2025, however, whereas the Meizu Note 16 Pro is officially scheduled to debut on May 13 of the same year.
