The trademark JerryRigEverything scratch test went up to a level 8 rather than 7 as usual for the very first time in 2024 when applied to the Galaxy S24 Ultra: an unprecedented score attributed to the last-gen flagship's Gorilla Armor.
The $1,299.99 and up S25 Ultra has failed to replicate this achievement, however, dropping back to "scratches at a level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7", even though it is covered in even more advanced Corning x Samsung display glass.
The apparent lack of progress might yet be explained by other factors such as the updated anti-glare coating for the S25 Ultra's 6.9-inch 120Hz Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display.
Despite its seemingly abysmal performance in durability testing thus far, the same screen emerged completely unscathed from its new and comprehensive drop test, courtesy of PBKReviews.
The vlogger also reported relatively minor damage to the Ultra's new titanium frame, and attributed its apparent resilience to its design, which incorporates a completely flat display, flat edges and more rounded corners for the first time in Galaxy S-series history.
Finally, the smartphone's camera rings, which have famously sprouted an air gap not seen in the S24 Ultra, stayed in place throughout the new online torture test.
