Benefits of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 upgrade shown in Google Pixel 8 Pro drop and scratch tests
PBKreviews has now subjected the Pixel 8 Pro to a series of drop and scratch tests. Previously, the YouTuber has highlighted the new smartphone's camera capabilities before revealing what the device looks like from the inside in a disassembly video. On the face of it, the Pixel 8 Pro should only fare as well as its predecessor, owing to its same size, weight and reliance on an aluminium frame.
However, Google has switched to Gorilla Glass Victus 2 this year, which Corning markets as its most robust glass yet. Surprisingly, the Pixel 8 Pro emerged from a few drops onto concrete with a small crack on its display in its upper left corner. It is worth stressing that the damage incurred from drops like these depends on what surface the device lands and at which angle. In other words, these drop tests may be representative but not necessarily the most demanding on Corning's new Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Additionally, PBKreviews tested the Pixel 8 Pro's scratch resistance by tossing it around it in a bag with dirt and small pebbles. Like the drop test, the display suffers minor damage, although the same cannot be said for the soft aluminium camera bar. Overall, it seems that a screen protector is necessary if you want to keep your Pixel 8 Pro in pristine condition, along with a case or a protective skin.
