Rumours of MIUI being replaced with MiOS emerge despite evidence of continued MIUI 15 development
Xiaomi has just started rolling out Android 14-based MIUI builds to recent flagships. As we discussed last week, the company has started its global release schedule with the Xiaomi 12T, Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. However, Digital Chat Station has sparked rumours that the company is preparing to replace MIUI with MiOS.
To that end, Xiaomi has trademarked 'MiOS' and reserved 'mios.cn'. Additionally, a screenshot purporting to be a MiOS developer build has turned up online. As far as we can tell, the screen originates on Chinese social media, although we would not rule out this being photoshopped in one or another. Digital Chat Station's Weibo post only reinforces the idea that MIUI is on its way out, with the leaker remarking that 'it is basically confirmed that MIUI14 will be the last official major version of MIUI'.
It is worth stressing that Xiaomi has not confirmed anything yet. Also Kacper Skrzypek, who is particularly familiar with MIUI code, has categorically ruled MIUI 14 being the last version of MIUI. Writing on Twitter, Skrzypek has demonstrated that Xiaomi has already added MIUI 15 codenames to MIUI code.
Moreover, Xiaomiui revealed that MIUI 15 builds were uploaded to Xiaomi's servers last month. In other words, it seems that there is no evidence to suggest that Xiaomi is pivoting away from MIUI to MiOS. Instead, it appears that the company is quietly finalising MIUI 15 builds internally, likely in time for the Xiaomi 14 series' debut before the end of the year.
