Rumours about Xiaomi developing its in-house ecosystem, complete with an OS and custom SoC, have been around for a while. An earlier leak said it would be called MiOS, which was said to be in development alongside MIUI 15. Now, Xiaomi boss Lei Jun has officially unveiled the software called Xiaomi Hyper OS.
Xiaomi Global's VP chimed in, stating that Xiaomi Hyper OS would debut alongside the Xiaomi 14 series. It will be available in Chinese and global phone variants and eventually replace MIUI in the coming year. New Xiaomi launches will likely run Hyper OS out of the box, and some existing devices will get it via an OTA update. Currently, there is no indication as to which smartphones will be eligible. Similarly, Xiaomi is yet to clarify if Hyper OS will be available on Poco and Redmi devices.
Digital Chat Station over on Weibo has shared what looks like a Xiaomi 14 phone running the new operating system. The leaker adds that Xiaomi aims to create an entire software ecosystem with Hyper OS, which will eventually power the vast repertoire of its IoT and smart devices, including the company's first-ever electric vehicle, due to launch in the coming months.
