Xiaomi 14 will feature Leica's higher-end Summilux lens, confirms launch teaser
Xiaomi has released a teaser confirming that the Xiaomi 14 series will feature Leica Summilux lenses on its cameras, making it the phone with the highest end optics ever used by the company. It has also stated that the phones will get "a new professional high-dynamic image sensor". The 14 series is slated for launch by the end of this month, and will be the first to replace Xiaomi’s older MIUI OS with the newly developed HyperOS.
Summilux lenses, with their wide f/1.4 aperture, offer excellent low-light performance, especially compared to the f/1.9 aperture Summicron lenses used on the Xiaomi 12/13 phones. At the same time, well-known leaker Evan Blass has reported that “both the standard and pro variants will feature brand new Leica Summilux lenses”.
Recent rumours about the 14 series’ camera also indicated that the Xiaomi 14 Pro will be getting a slightly smaller 50 MP 1/1.28-inch sensor compared to the 1-inch IMX989 in the Xiaomi 13 Pro, which makes sense, as the Summilux’s larger aperture would theoretically compensate for the reduced light-gathering ability. The 14 Pro could also get an improved tele-macro lens as well as variable aperture with four f-stops.
Xiaomi is fairly close to introducing its 14 series, and I'm told that both the standard and pro variants will feature brand new Leica Summilux lenses - supposedly the best the company has ever employed.
