Although the Xiaomi Pad 5, Pad 5 Pro 5G, and Pad 5 Pro WiFi will all receive MIUI 15, there is also a bit of a problem with this future update. According to the Chinese OEM, these slates will only get Android 13-based MIUI 15 updates, and there are no plans for releasing firmware based on Android 14 for them.

Released two years ago, the Xiaomi Pad 5 lineup was designed as an Android-driven iPad alternative and, according to our on-hands experiences with the Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro, we are talking about a solid family of mid-range and premium devices. While they arrived with Android 11 and MIUI 12.5, being currently updated to Android 13 and MIUI 15, there won't be any official Android 14-based firmware for them.

According to Xiaomi, the aforementioned tablet lineup will get MIUI 15, but on top of the Android 13 core which is also used in the MIUI 14 update already released into the wild. To make matters even worse, only specific models in the lineup will receive the Android 13/MIUI 15 software. These models are the Pad 5, Pad 5 Pro 5G, and Pad 5 Pro WiFi.

After being updated to MIUI 15, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 will be added to the End of Support list, thus being considered obsolete and left without any official software support. On the bright side, there are quite a few unofficial ROMs for the Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro available on the popular XDA Forums, so these tablets will remain relevant for at least a few years after Xiaomi decides to drop them, thanks to the involvement of the Android community.
