Google Pixel 8 Pro impresses in early camera and video samples
PBKreviews has posted what appear to be the first camera samples taken using the Pixel 8 Pro, Google's latest premier smartphone. Unveiled this week alongside the Pixel 8, Pixel Watch 2 and refreshed Pixel Buds Pro, the Pixel 8 Pro packs 50 MP primary, 48 MP telephoto, 48 MP ultra-wide-angle and 10.5 MP front-facing cameras. In other words, the Pixel 8 Pro should be well matched for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, among others.
PBKreviews' shots demonstrate as much, although the YouTuber has not directly compared the Pixel 8 Pro against any other flagships yet. Nonetheless, some of his followers have remarked how well the handset maintains image quality at 10x digital zoom, despite only having a 5x telephoto camera. However, it remains to be seen whether the Pixel 8 Pro uses its telephoto camera to capture zoomed shots in all lighting conditions.
For instance, the pixelated quality of 10x and 30x night shots implies that the device is cropping in on its 50 MP primary sensor instead. The YouTuber has also showcased the Pixel 8 Pro's videography capabilities, which you can see in the video embedded below. Overall, it seems that the device handles daylight conditions with ease but experiences some stuttering when panning at night. Like many modern smartphones, it also suffers from lens flares from direct light sources, but only in low light conditions. Please see our launch article for more details about the Pixel 8 Pro and how it differs from its predecessor.
