Google Pixel 8: Teardown video reveals repair improvements and thinner graphite film than in Pixel 8 Pro
Google has only just started fulfilling Pixel 8 series pre-orders. Even so, PBKreviews has already disassembled the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Additionally, the YouTuber has subjected the latter to durability tests and has showcased its camera capabilities in various lighting conditions. For reference, Google has already committed to offering spare parts for both devices until the end of the decade, which is also when the pair will stop receiving Android updates.
Like many other recent Pixel smartphones, the first step to accessing the internals of the Pixel 8 requires removing its display. Mirroring the Pixel 8 Pro, Google secures the Pixel 8's display with adhesive and clips. Thus, you must apply heat before separating the display from the rest of the Pixel 8.
Unfortunately, Google hides the battery behind 14 screws, as well as a piece of graphite film. Surprisingly, the Pixel 8 contains thinner graphite film than the Pixel 8 Pro, despite Google basing both on its new Tensor G3 chipset. Also, it is worth noting that Google still solders its USB Type-C ports to its mainboards. As a result, if the former fails on the Pixel 8, then you must replace the latter too. Nonetheless, PBKreviews has awarded the Pixel 8 seven out of ten possible points for repairability.
