Google Pixel 8 Pro cuts a fine figure in scratch, burn and bend tests
JerryRigEverything has put the Pixel 8 Pro through its paces, a few days after PBKreviews subjected Google's latest flagship through a series of drop tests. In summary, the Pixel 8 Pro survived being dropped from as high as head height without many issues. Seemingly, the implementation of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 played its part, which Corning markets as its most robust glass yet.
JerryRigEverything's tests suggest that the Pixel 8 Pro has a significantly stronger frame than its predecessor, too. For context, while the Pixel 7 Pro survived the YouTuber's bend tests without catastrophically breaking, its camera housing separated from its frame when pressure was applied to its back panel. In comparison, the Pixel 8 Pro exhibits no such issues, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
With that being said, Corning has been unable to surpass the scratch resistance of regular glass with Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Thus, objects scoring a 6 on Mohs hardness level will scratch the Pixel 8 Pro's display and back panel, such as sand or a steel nail. Unfortunately, the Pixel series' aluminium camera bar remains as scratchable as ever, thanks to its 2.8 Mohs hardness rating. Nonetheless, the Pixel 8 Pro has proven to be more durable than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, albeit no more so than the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus or iPhone 15 Pro in this regard.
