The 14 Ultra is the first ever Xiaomi flagship smartphone to come with a Titanium Edition. Now, the OEM has revealed just how big a step owning such a variant might get, particularly should it ever need to be fixed out of warranty. A number of its components, its Leica-branded rear cameras included, have changed dramatically in terms of their cost as replacement parts.

The 14 Ultra can be said to have outdone its predecessor in a number of ways - now, Xiaomi has revealed that the potential cost of an in-house out-of-warranty repair is one of them. The OEM has once again hiked these charges to unprecedented levels once again for its latest Leica camera flagship.

They even extend to a rear panel replacement, which increases by just over 60% from 180 yuan (~$25) for the 13 Ultra on its release to 290 yuan (~$40) for its successor. The top-end 16GB RAM/1TB internal storage version of the newer device also has a motherboard valued at a whopping 3,030 yuan (~$420), compared to 2,560 yuan (~$355) for its forebear - then again, its storage topped out at 512GB in 2023.

The 13 Ultra's rear camera array, with its premium 1-inch main sensor, could cost up to 1,450 yuan (~$201) to fix - which almost looks reasonable compared to a combined cost of 1,670 yuan (~$231) for replacement 14 Ultra rear cameras.

Its first-gen Titanium Edition has identical repair costs - except for when it comes to its display, which is 340 yuan (~$47) more than that of a standard 16/512GB unit at 1,350 yuan (~$187) - nearly the same as that of a 13 Ultra in that case.

It should be noted that none of these charges pertain to the 14 Ultra's mid-frame specifically (which is where the titanium is found in the case of its Special Edition), leaving one to wonder if it is irreplaceable in the event of scratches or damage, or if that cost is spread around to all the other inflated expenses of a repair Xiaomi deems not covered by its warranty in China.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: titanium by default, yet still at least $1,149.99 on Amazon right now.
