Xiaomi has released a new flagship in China, shortly before the same device arrives globally. As expected, the device is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which starts at ~$903 and contains a few hardware changes from the Xiaomi 14 Pro, as well as last year's Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

Xiaomi will reveal the Xiaomi 14 series globally this week, roughly four months after presenting the first members in the series in China. In the meantime, the company has released the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in China, where it starts at CNY 6,499 (~$903). In other words, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra retails for CNY 1,500 (~$209) and 30% more than the Xiaomi 14 Pro. For context, Xiaomi has priced its new flagship as follows:

  • 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 6,499 (~$903)
  • 16 GB RAM/512 GB storage - CNY 6,999 (~$973)
  • 16 GB RAM/1 TB storage - CNY 7,799 (~$1,085)

Ultimately, the same display and silicon power the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Thus, the latter sports a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display that outputs at 3,200 x 1,440 pixels, 120 Hz and with 3,000 nits peak brightness. However, Xiaomi has given the large display a flatter finish for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, unlike the curved Xiaomi 14 Pro. Additionally, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra finds itself with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, as well as LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

Arguably, the biggest difference between the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra lies in the latter's camera hardware. Nonetheless, Xiaomi also boasts that the latter uses 'Shield Glass', seemingly its rival to Huawei's Kunlun glass. Meanwhile, the back of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is adorned with quad 50 MP cameras, including a Sony LYT900 as its primary sensor. By contrast, its other rear-facing cameras rely upon the Sony IMX858, which Xiaomi uses as 12 mm ultra-wide-angle camera and a pair of telephoto cameras that deliver 75 mm and 120 mm equivalent focal lengths, which equates to 3.2x and 5x optical zoom, respectively.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a 32 MP front-facing camera. Finally, a 5,300 mAh battery underpins proceedings, which is 8.6% larger than the 4,880 mAh equivalent powering the Xiaomi 14 Pro. For some reason, Xiaomi offers higher wattage wired charging on the Xiaomi 14 Pro than on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, with 120 W provided to the former and 90 W to the latter. 50 W wireless and 10 W reverse wireless charging remains, though. Separately, Xiaomi sells the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with accessories that turn it into a quasi-camera. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether these will be joining the handset globally.
