Xiaomi releases new flagship Android tablet with direct comparisons drawn against Apple iPad Pro 12.9
Xiaomi has now lifted the lid on its first flagship tablet since the Pad 6 Max 14, which it announced in mid-August 2023. As expected, the new tablet arrives as the fourth member of the Pad 6 series rather than as a Pad 7 series member. Nonetheless, the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 contains various improvements over the Pad 6, Pad 6 Pro and Pad 6 Max 14.
On the one hand, the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 utilises the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, up from the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in the rest of the Pad 6 series. Please note that this only sees the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 matching the Galaxy Tab S9 series. Additionally, it also means that the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 relies upon older silicon than the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which also launched today in China. Nonetheless, Xiaomi complements the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 with a 10,000 mAh battery, 120 W wired charging, 1 TB of storage and 16 GB of RAM.
To that end, Xiaomi directly compared the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 to the current iPad Pro 12.9 during today's launch event. Accordingly, Xiaomi claims superiority over Apple with its tablet's 3,048 x 2,032-pixel resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate, as well as its Wi-Fi 7 connectivity and lower starting price. Seemingly, Xiaomi plans to launch the Pad 6S Pro 12.4 globally, presumably during its Xiaomi 14 series launch event later this week at MWC 2024. In the meantime, the company has priced the tablet as follows in its home market:
- 8 GB RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 3,299 (~$459)
- 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage - CNY 3,599 (~$500)
- 12 GB RAM/512 GB storage - CNY 3,999 (~$556)
- 16 GB RAM/1 TB storage - CNY 4,499 (~$626)
