MagyarFairphone 4 receives significant camera upgrade and price reduction
The Fairphone 4 was launched in fall 2021, but the sustainable mid-range smartphone will continue to be supplied with software updates until 2028. To make the device more attractive as a cheaper alternative to the Fairphone 5 (approx. 740 euros on Amazon), Fairphone is reducing the recommended retail price of the basic model with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory by 80 euros to 499 euros; the model with 8 GB or 256 GB memory now officially costs 569 euros.
As a look at price comparison shows, the smartphone has already been offered by retailers for less than 400 euros in some cases in recent weeks, so it may be worth keeping an eye on offers. Fairphone is also releasing a software update, which is primarily intended to improve the 48-MP f/1.6 main camera with 1/2-inch sensor and the 48-MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera.
First and foremost, the time it takes from opening the camera app to taking the first photo is said to have been reduced by "230%" - this may be mathematically questionable, but it is certainly a considerable improvement. The shutter lag has been reduced and the time from one shot to the next has been halved.
In low light and when Super Night mode is activated, the Fairphone 4 should record photos with more contrast and detail after the update. The electronic image stabilization should now work more reliably when recording videos.
