Evidence of new Motorola Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship surface with charging and battery capabilities referenced
Motorola remains without a current-generation flagship, almost four months after Xiaomi released the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro in China. Similarly, the company has since launched the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, with the likes of OnePlus and Samsung already offering up Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones of their own globally. While there had been rumblings of Motorola preparing a Moto X40 successor for a Q2 2024 release, there had been no concrete evidence that any such device was being developed.
However, 91mobiles and MySmartPrice have since discovered a device bearing the model number 'XT2403' and 'XT2431-1' at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the UAE's Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) and at the TÜV Rheinland in Germany. For now, the various regulatory bodies highlight numerous model numbers, which are as follows:
- XT2403-1
- XT2403-2
- XT2403-4
- XT2403-5
- XT2403-6
- XT2431-1
Seemingly, all these model numbers relate to the same overarching device. Unfortunately, the BIS, FCC, TÜV Rheinland and TDRA reveal little information about any of these models. Nonetheless, the TDRA links 'XT2403-2' to the marketing name 'Motorola Edge 50 Pro', the heir apparent to the Edge 40 Pro that Motorola sells in China as the Moto X40 and in North America as the Edge+ (2023) (curr. $799.99 on Amazon). Moreover, the same regulatory body lists the codename 'Macan24', which Evan Blass claimed earlier this month related to the Edge 50 Pro.
Ultimately, the stops that 'XT2043' has made around the world at this point suggest that Motorola is preparing a global release for the Edge 50 Pro. Other specifications remain unknown for now, but associated certifications imply that the Edge 50 Pro could recharge a 4,500 mAh battery at 50 W wirelessly, which would be a considerable upgrade over the 15 W provided by the Edge 40 Pro. Purportedly, 125 W charging will remain though, which fully recharges the Edge 40 Pro in an advertised 23 minutes.
