Valve has furnished SteamOS and Steam Deck gaming handhelds with another set of improvements. All contained within new Steam Deck Beta Client updates, the bug fixes touch various aspects of SteamOS, including its dedicated Desktop Mode.

SteamOS has received another round of refinements through new Steam Deck Beta Client updates. February has been a busy month for Valve's operating system, with SteamOS 3.5.14, 3.5.15 and 3.5.16 all arriving this month, as well as a host of previous Steam Deck Beta Client updates. Although this has all been occurring on the SteamOS Beta development branch, its stable counterpart has been much quieter, with the last Steam Deck Client Update rolling out in mid-December.

According to the Steam Deck News Hub, Valve has pushed two Beta Client updates to the Steam Deck in almost as many days. While the pair address only a few issues in their own right, they combine to deliver numerous changes and improvements for the Steam Deck and Steam OLED. On the one hand, gaming handhelds enrolled in Valve's Beta Program should show styling on the controller mode settings page properly after applying the latest Beta Client updates.

Additionally, Valve claims to have resolved a problem that caused user avatars in the title bar to momentarily switch back to default during startup. Moreover, the updates contain five 'general' fixes for problems, including the friends list not showing when a friend is selected. The combined changelogs for both updates are as follows:

General

  • Fixed EULA dialog extending off the screen
  • Fixed creation of erroneous steamwebhelper processes when steamwebhelper crashes
  • Fixed friends list not showing which friend was selected
  • Fixed on-screen text input to show the game in the background.
  • Fixed some Steam chat views not indicating which item was selected

Desktop Mode

  • Fixed user avatar in title bar momentarily switching back to default during startup.

Steam Input

  • Fix styling of the controller mode settings page
