GPD has announced its intentions to introduce new versions of its Win 4 gaming handheld and G1 eGPU. While the GPD G1 will gain improvements from refined I/O and additional buttons, the GPD Win 4 2024 will adopt AMD's new Ryzen 7 8840U APU.

GPD has outlined plans to deliver updated versions of two of its recent devices. To recap, the company has already outlined that it will refresh the Win Max 2 with the Ryzen 7 8840U, an AMD Hawk Point APU that effectively is the Ryzen 7 7840U with improved 'Ryzen AI'. For reference, the APU has already been shown to outperform the Steam Deck when running at a 10 W TDP, details of which we have covered separately.

Unsurprisingly, GPD hopes to soon offer an equivalent refresh for the GPD Win 4. For full disclosure, GPD originally launched the Win 4 in late 2022 with a Ryzen 7 6800U APU before updating it a few months later with Ryzen 7040U APUs and an OCuLink connection. As far as we can tell, the Win 4 2024 will be an even smaller refresh than the Win 4 2023 was. At any rate, GPD has announced through Weixin that the Win 4 2024 will soon enter mass production and 'will be available as soon as the end of this month'.

The revised gaming handheld will be joined by an updated G1 during the same time frame. While the eGPU will retain its current AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU, GPD has added a dedicated power switch and a TDP rocker for 60 W and 100 W TDP modes. Apparently, the adoption of the latter should only reduce performance by about 20% while consuming 40% less power in the process. Moreover, the updated GPD G1 adds 65 W USB Power Delivery, previously 60 W and resolves the signal interference that prevented its HDMI port from outputting at 4K and 120 Hz simultaneously. Going off previous GPD releases, it could take the Win 4 2024 and G1 a few months to launch globally, likely first through Indiegogo.
