GPD is now selling a new version of its G1 eGPU. While the GPD G1 retains its predecessor's AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU, it now features improved I/O and a solution for its loud fan noise.

GPD has refreshed the G1, its inaugural eGPU. For context, the original GPD G1 arrived in July 2023 and soon faced competition from the ONEXPLAYER ONEXGPU. Additionally, the improved G1 is one of several early 2024 product refreshes for GPD, including the Win 4 2024 that it has started selling today.

In short, the new GPD G1 retains the same overarching feature set as the original model. Thus, the eGPU measures 225 x 111 x 29.8 mm and houses an AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT laptop GPU. However, a few improvements exist between the two eGPUs, although only one is visible. On the one hand, the newer GPD G1 contains a switch for toggling between 60 W and 100 W Total Graphics Power (TGP) modes. Theoretically, this change should help mitigate the excessive fan noise that we observed in our original review.

On the other hand, GPD has updated the eGPU's I/O for 4K/120 Hz support on its HDMI port and 65 W passthrough charging on its USB4 port. Other than that, all other GPD G1 elements remain untouched. Currently, GPD sells its updated eGPU for $669.75 on AliExpress when applying coupon code 62VR1I4N7PKC. Alternatively, the G1 is orderable through Indiegogo for approximately $10 cheaper. In both cases, the new eGPU should begin shipping later this month.
