GucksTV, a German tech reviewer, recently tested AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7 8700GE APU, highlighting its impressive performance and efficiency. With a TDP of just 35 W compared to the 8700G's 65 W, the 8700GE achieves 84% of the 8700G's performance while consuming significantly less power. Featuring 8 Zen 4 cores and 12 RDNA 3 cores, the 8700GE excelled in various tests, making it an ideal choice for compact builds and home server setups.

GucksTV, a German tech reviewer, recently assessed an engineering sample of the upcoming 35 W Ryzen 7 8700GE. Compared to the Ryzen 7 8700G which launched earlier this year for the AM5 socket, the 8700GE sports a TDP of just 35 watts compared to the 8700G's TDP of 65 watts.

Both SKUs share similarities in core counts and clocks, featuring 8 Zen 4 cores reaching up to 5.1 GHz and 12 RDNA 3 cores. Despite being an engineering sample, GucksTV conducted a thorough array of tests, revealing the impressive performance of the 8700GE within its power constraints.

In the Cinebench R23 test, the 8700G achieved a score of 17,430, while the 8700GE managed around 14,600. However, the shocking aspect lies in the power efficiency, with the 8700GE achieving this score at a maximum power draw of just 40 W compared to the 8700G's peak of over 88 W. This translates to 84% of the 8700G's performance at less than half the power consumption, a remarkable feat.

Moving to GPU performance, the 8700GE's RDNA 3-based 780M delivers solid results as anticipated. Despite the power discrepancy, the 8700GE scores 2,694 points in the 3DMark Time Spy test, approximately 18% lower than the 8700G's score of 3,303, while utilizing less than half the power.

The AMD Ryzen 8700GE's low power usage, coupled with commendable performance and temperature management, makes it an ideal choice for Mini-ITX builds and home server setups. Once again, AMD flexes on the industry with it's seemingly unbeatable efficiency prowess.
