16-inch KDE Slimbook V Linux laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS up for pre-orders starting at €999

The devs behind the Linux-based KDE environment have been collaborating with the Spanish laptop OEM Slimbook for several years on thin and light notebooks specifically designed for a smooth Linux experience. With the release of the latest KDE Plasma 6 open source desktop environment, the two companies are now releasing the fifth iteration of the KDE Slimbook model that also includes refreshed hardware specs like AMD’s Ryzen 7 7840HS processor.

Sporting the acclaimed Phoenix-series processors from AMD integrating the Radeon 780M GPU with 12 RDNA3 cores, the new KDE Slimbook V can be equipped with up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and up to 8 TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage via two M.2 2280 slots. The 16-inch display gets an IPS panel with 2560 x 1600 resolution, 165 Hz refresh rate, 100% sRGB and 400 nit maximum brightness.

Another highlight for this model is the full aluminum chassis that has a 0.8-inch (2 cm) profile, while the system weighs 4.1 lbs (1.86 kg) including the 68 Wh battery estimated to last up to 11 hours.

Slimbook still does not provide any high-speed connectors, as the port selection only comes with 2x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI video out and audio jack. Due to the thinner profile, there is only wireless connectivity through a Wi-Fi 6 + BT 5.2 card. The webcam features a privacy shutter, for increased security.

Thanks to the large 16-inch frame, Slimbook is also providing a full-size backlit keyboard that can be customized to match most of the European language layouts, as well as the default US English. Additionally, the most recent KDE Neon OS with Plasma 6 UI offers access to a large catalog of open source free applications matching all the users’ needs.

Pre-orders start at €999 and the base configuration comes with 16 GB RAM and 250 GB storage. Orders will start shipping in April.
