MX Linux 23.2 with the latest PipeWire 1.0 multimedia system breathes new life into old laptops

The Linux distribution MX Linux has been at the top of the rankings of Distrowatch, a website that sorts Linux distributions by popularity. And now the next stable update of MX Linux 23.2 "Libretto" is available, which can be downloaded with the desktop interfaces XFCE, KDE Plasma or Fluxbox as well as a Raspberry Pi Edition.

MX Linux 23.2 is based on Debian 12.4 "Bookworm"

"MX-23.2 is the first refresh of our MX-23 release, consisting of bugfixes, kernels, and application updates since our original release of MX-23. Packages are all available thru the regular update channels or by installing the changed applications." write the MX-Linux developers in a blog post about the latest update.

The base of MX Linux will be changed to the current Debian 12.4 "Bookworm" and some applications will be updated. Those using the standard versions of MX Linux 23.2 with Xfce or Fluxbox desktop will receive the Long-Time Support (LTS) kernel version 6.1. Alternatively, an Advanced Hardware Support (AHS) version with Linux 6.6 LTS and Xfce desktop is available. The AHS version of MX Linux 23.2 also comes with newer firmware and graphics libraries (Mesa).

Regardless of the MX Linux version used, all MX 23.2 variants receive an update to the PipeWire 1.0 audio and video framework. There are also some bug fixes to the installer and a new MX Locale tool for language management. Details and download links can be found in the official MX Linux 23.2 announcement.
