Linux Mint 22 to be released in summer 2024, based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
It has been just over a month since the release of Linux Mint 21.3, and the Edge ISO with the Linux 6.5 kernel for the current Mint version "Virginia" has recently become available. But now the developers of the popular Linux distribution with the Cinnamon desktop have released the first information about the upcoming Linux Mint 22 in their monthly newsletter.
Linux Mint 22, codenamed "Wilma", gets "Nemo Actions Organizer"
The first letter of the codename for the next Linux Mint release should come as no surprise, as after Mint 21.3, codenamed "Virginia", a name with a "W" was inevitable. The choice fell on Linux Mint 22 "Wilma", and in the latest monthly newsletter on the Linux Mint blog, the developers also presented a new feature: the "Nemo Actions Organizer".
"You’ll be able to organize your Nemo actions in menus and submenus. This tool will support nested submenus, menu icons, separators and drag-and-drop. You’ll also be able to rename actions and override their icon," the development team explains in their blog about the new "Nemo Actions Organizer" feature.
The use of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ("long-term support") based on the Linux 6.8 kernel as the underlying platform for Linux Mint 22 "Wilma" is also considered certain. In addition, like version 21.3, Mint 22 will ship with an experimental Wayland session, but will continue to rely on X11 as the default display server. The next release of Linux Mint version 22, aka "Wilma", is expected in June or July this year.
