KDE Plasma 6 Linux desktop environment available as Release Candidate 2
The final version of the KDE Plasma 6 Linux desktop environment is slowly but surely approaching, as the development team has released its second release candidate, the "KDE Mega-Release 6". In addition to the Plasma desktop, the KDE team has also released the Gear 24.02 application suite and the Frameworks 6 development tools as Release Candidate 2 (RC2).
Likely last test version before official release
KDE developer Nate Graham regularly posts about improvements in KDE 6 on his blog Adventures in Linux and KDE. According to Graham, some bugs in the user interface have been fixed, and it is now possible to mirror two screens in the Wayland session of Plasma 6 via the display settings in the system preferences.
Niccolò Venerandi was also able to fix a bug that could cause an application or window in Task Manager to accidentally become a launcher widget. Other bugs have also been fixed, such as keyboard shortcuts working more reliably and the Discover software store launching a little faster. Currently, there are still 4 very high priority bug reports and 34 so-called "15-minute plasma bugs" that could be fixed quite quickly. Last week, the KDE team fixed a total of 150 bugs of various types.
If you want to test the pre-release version of KDE Plasma 6, you can download the "Unstable Edition" of KDE neon or the KDE spin of Fedora Rawhide. If you would like to support the development team, you can do so via a donation campaign, which is already well over the minimum donation target.
