Linux hardware maker System76 now offers 'Serval WS' notebook with Intel i9-14900HX CPU
Linux hardware manufacturer System76 not only offers a wide range of notebooks, desktops, mini-PCs and servers, but also develops the popular Linux distribution Pop!_OS. The US company's Serval WS notebook is now available with an Intel i9 14900HX CPU instead of the 13900HX.
Intel i9 CPU with 24 and RTX 4060 or 4070 GPU
System76 offers the "Serval WS" notebook as a portable workstation, which has 8 Performance (P) and 16 Efficiency (E) cores in addition to the updated 24-core CPU i9-14900HX from Intel. The notebook can be configured with a GeForce RTX 4060 (3,072 CUDA cores) or RTX 4070 (4,608 CUDA cores) in addition to the integrated Intel Xe onboard graphics.
The Serval WS comes with a base configuration of 16GB of DDR5-4800 RAM, which can be upgraded to up to 64GB of DDR5-5200 RAM at an additional cost. A 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD (PCIe 4) is installed as standard, up to 4TB can be selected in the notebook's System76 configurator, and a second M.2 SSD can be added as an option.
Display options include a 15.6-inch display or two different 17.3-inch panels with the following specifications; the 16:9 displays are also all matt: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) with 165 Hz, 17.3-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,440) with 240 Hz and 17.3-inch UHD (3,840 x 2,160) with 144 Hz refresh rate.
US QWERTY keyboard only
A major drawback of the System76 laptops is the fact that only a US keyboard in QWERTY layout can be ordered; the manufacturer recommends the use of keyboard stickers for country-specific customisation. The Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS Linux operating system, which is installed as a default, can be easily changed to the language of the respective country.
In addition to the base price of $2,099, orders outside the USA will be subject to additional shipping and import duties. The new Serval WS notebook can be configured and ordered individually via System76's own online store.
