Meizu ultimately exits conventional smartphone industry, enters new All in AI age
The latest Meizu-related leaks have been all about the rumored 21 Pro and Infinity, Android smartphones that would be heirs to devices that, despite a veritable cult following thanks to their outstanding design, have nonetheless become surpassed by rivals from brands such as OPPO and Xiaomi for industry dominance over the generations. However, the OEM has rather abruptly announced that those devices have in fact been cancelled, as indeed have their planned 22- and 23-series successors.
Instead, Meizu now intends to focus exclusively on "AI Devices", the first of which might be here in 2024, with its first Pro counterpart to emerge by 2026. The company has yet to divulge what either of them is actually intended to do, but has hinted that they will gain multiple variants over time, some of which will be "All-Weather" in nature.
Whatever that means, it seems they will run some version of Flyme OS (currently doing duty as a skin for Android), albeit one completely re-designed and optimized for the "seamless" integration of AI.
Fans of popular Meizu spin-offs such as PANDAER, MYVU, Flyme AR and Flyme Auto need not fear, however: the company will not abandon them as it will "traditional smartphones", although they too are now slated to go "All in AI" in the future.
