Meizu has officially confirmed a launch window for its new, 20-series premium Android smartphone. It seems the flagship will not arrive alone, however – it will be joined by a new dedicated audio player. The OEM claims to have developed new in-house DAC technology for the upcoming M3 variant.

Meizu may have all but dropped off the personal devices sphere prior to its possibly life-saving acquisition by Geely; however, it was once known for dedicated audio players as well as for premium Android smartphones. Now, it has announced its intent to unveil a return to both spaces in the first quarter of 2023.

The freshly-confirmed 20 series is now thus teased as a device with potentially distinctive, premium styling and at least 1 prominent rear-facing camera lens thus far. It is also said to come with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC as other new devices such as the Xiaomi 13 series or Motorola Moto X40.

Therefore, the Meizu 20 series may be prepared to compete at the highest tier of the Android smartphone market. However, it might still lack some hardware needed to appeal to the determined audiophile, a 4.4mm jack to go next to its USB type-C port and 3.5mm jack and dedicated front-facing media controls included.

However, those features are to be found on the upcoming M3 Pro "Hi-Fi Player". Its premium metallic shell is tipped to house a custom H1 DAC chip, connected to the rest of its internals through an equally in-house PCB design for “full-link True 1-Bit audio” decoding.

Meizu also asserts that the M3 Pro will come packed with the purpose-made oversampling technology and algorithms to drive its sampling rate up to 11.2MHz at the most. It will come with 128GB of internal storage and a diamond-cut "Hold" toggle on one side.

The M3 Pro has a placeholder page on Meizu's online store thus far, although it may not go live until the 20 series is also here in the new year.
