TCL Nxtwear S Plus AR glasses feature 120 Hz OLED displays and an affordable price tag
The TCL Nxtwear S Plus is the company's newest pair of AR glasses, bringing many upgrades over the predecessors. But they aren't still a direct competitor to the Apple Vision Pro or Meta Quest 3 (available on Amazon) mixed-reality headsets. Instead, like the predecessors, the new glasses require a compatible connected device to run.
To make the connection, you can either rely on the USB-C Display Port or adaptors that require a separate purchase. Once you hook the AR glasses to a phone or console, you can enjoy 3D visuals at a resolution of 3840 x 1080 pixels. For 2D images, the OLED screens offer a 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution on a display equivalent to a 215-inch panel placed six meters away.
Regarding the upgrades over the regular TCL Nxtwear S, the newer S Plus AR glasses have better brightness, a higher refresh rate, and a lighter build. More specifically, the OLED screens on the Nxtwear S Plus sport 600 nits of brightness, 200 nits higher than the predecessors. This should lead to better contrast and vivid colors.
In addition, the dual OLED displays can reach a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate, a 60 Hz jump from the predecessors. Lastly, the newer Nxtwear S Plus AR glasses are 2 grams lighter. They weigh 87 grams, which is not a significant difference, but it should make them a bit more comfortable to wear.
When it comes to the price, the new TCL glasses are $399 or £399, which is the same launch price as the predecessors. However, the regular Nxtwear S glasses saw a price reduction since their launch, and they often enjoy discounts. For example, they are currently available for $269.10 on Amazon.
