Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tests Apple Vision Pro and compares it with Quest 3
The Apple Vision Pro has been in the hands of many people over the past few weeks, and now CEO Mark Zuckerberg has finally shared his thoughts on it. So far, some of the most curious videos on social media have featured the virtual reality headset:
From a driver of a cybertruck wearing the VR headset to people having a meal in street cafes. On Tuesday, Zuckerberg published a video on his Instagram account that was recorded using the mixed reality passthrough system of the Quest 3:
I don’t just think that Quest is the better value, I think Quest is the better product, period.
He also points out that the Quest 3 is about seven times less expensive and 120 grams lighter, which makes it more comfortable to wear. It's also easier to move around because it doesn't have a wired battery, and the field of view is wider, brighter and sharper when moving back and forth (despite the higher resolution of the Vision Pro).
Zuckerberg notes that the Quest's hand tracking is more accurate, while he praises the Vision Pro's eye tracking and says that this feature will be back in future Quest models. He also highlights the Quest's more immersive content library, among a few other compromises he feels the Vision Pro makes, as well as some praise.
It's hardly surprising that Zuckerberg is more likely to recommend his own device. But what he doesn't say, for example, is that Apple has advantages in terms of hardware and the developer ecosystem. Watching the evolution of virtual reality headsets in the future will certainly be exciting.
