QIDI claims to have fulfilled the wildest and most cyberpunk dreams of tech-loving sports enthusiasts everywhere with its upcoming product.
The Vida glasses are slated to support the latest AR features such as hands-free voice control for a projection that can stretch across 100 perceived inches via dual lenses for a "full-color" display, yet also be light and comfortable enough to wear even while out on the mountain bike or other extreme pursuit.
Furthermore, QIDI also indicates that all the gadgets the user might usually bring on the trail, a bike computer, GPS and health-tracking wearable included can be consolidated in a single pair of Vida glasses, which can also convert this data into a heads-up display and/or voice alerts.
Accordingly, the start-up envisages that the glasses will be able to help the user find their way, track their speed and check metrics such as heart-rate in the safest and most seamless way possible. QIDI also projects that Vida will also be capable of alerting the user in case of adverse events such as altitude sickness mid-ride.
The company also intends that the Vida will be an eSIM device, so that groups can stay connected and might be able to track lost members down if necessary.
Accordingly, the glasses give the impression of being a standalone (and GPX-compatible) AR fitness companion thus far, although it is also slated to sync with other smart sports tech from OEMs such as Samsung, Garmin and Apple, and with apps such as Strava, All Trails and Keep.
Then again, the QIDI Vida's potential to herald the future of sports tech depends on the success of its crowdfunding campaign, which has yet to begin on Kickstarter.
