Pimax Crystal Super debuts as QLED and/or micro-OLED VR headset with interchangeable-display technology
Why choose between QLED and micro-OLED displays when you can have either - or even both? That new feature debuts in the new Super version of Pimax' Crystal virtual reality (VR) headset. It can support a resolution of up to 4K at 90Hz, has a "massive" field of view (FOV) and has integrated audio. It debuts alongside its new Light sibling for potentially high-res, lightweight PCVR experiences on more of a budget.
Pimax has augmented its Crystal series of PCVR headsets with a new flagship variant that also packs "the world's first" swappable visor (or "optical engine") system. Therefore, one could buy its micro-OLED version for potentially improved image quality at 4K (3840 x 3840) per eye, only to then later acquire the QLED "engine" for its improved 120Hz refresh rate at the same resolution.
The Pimax Crystal Super also boasts "inside-out" 6 degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) tracking, image-enhancing qualities such as glare- and ghosting-resistance, and has "high-quality" integrated audio. It can be reserved ahead of its release to shipping in the last quarter of 2024 (4Q2024) and is slated to start at $1,799 for the QLED visor-only version, whereas the Crystal Light can be pre-ordered from now.
Like its new Super sibling, it is rated to have a size and weight reduced compared to the original Crystal while retaining its 2880 x 2880 pixel-per-eye resolution/120Hz specs. It currently goes for $699 as a QLED headset, or $899 with an upgrade to mini-LED for local dimming.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
