The Pimax Dream Air is a new VR headset with a particularly high resolution and compact dimensions. The device looks like the Apple Vision Pro, but is significantly cheaper and relies on a player.

Pimax is now offering a new VR headset, the Dream Air, for pre-order at a price of $1,199. This is the price of the product only; shipping costs, VAT, GST and local sales taxes are calculated at checkout. Readers can check here to see what these extra costs may be, which obviously vary from country to country. Those who place an order before March 31, 2025, will receive free shipping, namely those from the USA, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, China and Japan. Delivery is not scheduled until May 2025, and any cancellations can be fully refunded (subject to any payment or credit card processing fees as per third-party rules).

Now for the product itself: the Dream Air VR headset is said to weigh less than 200 grams. In terms of design, Pimax has obviously drawn a lot of inspiration from the Apple Vision Pro, with the use of fabric on the sides and the front in particular being very reminiscent of the Apple headset. Unlike the Apple Vision Pro, however, the Pimax Dream Air cannot be used autonomously, but is dependent on a player - there is no SoC available. The headset is connected via a five-meter USB-C port, which can transmit image content via DisplayPort.

A resolution of a proud 3,840 x 3,552 pixels per eye is advertised, which should result in a high display quality. The refresh rate is specified as 90 Hz and micro OLED panels are installed. The covered field of vision is specified as 102°. Both hand tracking and eye tracking are integrated, and the interpupillary distance is adjusted automatically. A microphone and speakers are also on board. Lastly, SLAM tracking is supported, but Lighthouse tracking is also possible.
