Vivo has shown off a new mixed reality headset at the ongoing Boao Forum for Asia. The headset which is named the Vivo Vision has a design that's inspired by the Apple Vision Pro. News of the headset first surfaced in December 2024.
The Vivo Vision is shown to have a blue finish with a solo loop headband similar to that of the Apple Vision Pro. There's also a light seal, but it is not clear if it is magnetically attached (and detachable) like that of the Apple Vision Pro or it is permanently fused.
Unsurprisingly, the headset has a power cable on the left that connects to a power pack that has the same matching color as the headset. There are a bunch of cameras on the front of the headset and two pointing downwards. The images also show the Vivo Vision has two buttons underneath the right temple and a knob akin to an oversized digital crown.
Sadly, there are no details about the features and technical specifications of the Vivo Vision, but considering it has been reported that the mixed reality headset will be announced in mid-2025, we can expect more details to surface as the launch draws close.
We are particularly interested in the software, specifically whether it runs Android XR or not. Samsung is expected to launch the first Android XR headset later this year, so if the Vivo Vision runs Android XR, it will most definitely launch after Samsung's headset. However, if it runs on a different operating system, then it just might arrive before Samsung's headset.
There's also the question of whether it will be a commercially available product or a proof of concept as is sometimes the case with some manufacturers. Nevertheless, we can expect more Android XR headsets to arrive after Samsung's Project Moohan is unveiled.
