At the start of sales in the USA, Apple finally confirmed the full specifications of the Vision Pro. The iPhone manufacturer still had a few surprises in store, such as the option for memory upgrades or the details of the built-in processor.

Apple Vision Pro can be pre-ordered in the USA from today, with the launch in Europe scheduled for the first half of 2024. The technology giant from Cupertino has finally confirmed more details about the features of the mixed reality headset to coincide with the sales launch. It is now certain that Vision Pro will be equipped with the fastest version of the Apple M2 which has four performance cores, four efficiency cores, and a graphics chip with ten processing units.

Apple Vision Pro always uses 16 GB of RAM, which is shared between the processor and the graphics chip. The integrated Apple R1 chip is said to reduce latency to 12 milliseconds and increase the memory bandwidth to 256 GB/s - the regular Apple M2 "only" achieves 100 GB/s, and even the Apple M2 Pro only reaches 200 GB/s. The headset has 256 GB of flash memory as standard, but this can be expanded to 512 GB for an additional 200 US dollars or 1 TB for 400 US dollars.

The headset's micro OLED displays have a total of 23 million pixels, can display 92 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, and can be operated with a frame rate of either 90 Hz, 96 Hz, or 100 Hz - these options ensure that videos can also be displayed smoothly at 24, 30 or 50 frames per second. However, it is disappointing that virtual Mac monitors are limited to 1,080p resolution, although Vision Pro functions as an AirPlay monitor similar to the Apple TV 4K(approx. 159 euros on Amazon) and is also compatible with the iPhone and iPad.

The stereoscopic 3D camera, which can be used to record spatial videos, has a resolution of 6.5 "stereo megapixels" and an 18 mm f/2.0 lens. Apple Vision Pro supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and the HDR formats Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG. In addition to Apple Lossless and FLAC, the audio formats Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus, which are commonly used for movies, are also supported. Depending on the accessories used, the headset weighs between 600 and 650 grams. Apple comes with a 30-watt USB-C charger, a battery, a 1.5-metre cable and a polishing cloth.
