Apple iPhone to receive new features and better theft protection with iOS 17.3
In a recent press release, Apple has officially confirmed that iOS 17.3 will be released next week. Based on Apple's usual release schedule, the update will made available to all users of compatible iPhones between Monday, January 22 and Wednesday, January 24. The highlight of the update is the so-called Stolen Device Protection.
This is an anti-theft feature that requires biometric authentication via Touch ID or Face ID in order to access the passwords stored on the device. If the iCloud password or the Face ID or Touch ID data is changed, these changes are implemented with a time delay of only one hour, except in the user's home.
These two changes prevent a thief from observing a user entering the PIN, taking the iPhone and then locking the owner out of the device and the connected iCloud account, while giving the thief access to all data on the device. According to Apple, there have been several such thefts, particularly in public places such as bars.
These thefts are particularly annoying because without access to their iCloud accounts, owners cannot access backups or photos stored in iCloud. The update to iOS 17.3 also introduces collaborative playlists in Apple Music so that they can be created and edited together with friends. Lastly, the patch introduces new wallpapers.
