Death Stranding was originally released in November 2019 for the Sony PlayStation 4 but was later re-released as a Director's Cut for the PC and PlayStation 5 (approx. 550 euros on Amazon), which included new weapons, vehicles, and missions in addition to technical improvements. At WWDC 2023, Hideo Kojima announced that the game would also be released on Apple devices.
Although the developer studio was unable to meet the target date of the end of 2023, Death Stranding Director's Cut can now be pre-ordered from the App Store before the game is released on January 31. It's good to know that anyone who buys the game for 22.99 euros will receive both the iPhone and iPad versions as well as the Mac version, and saves can be synchronized between the platforms. The price is surprisingly low, as even the Windows version, which is over three years old, still costs 39.99 euros on Steam.
On Mac, the game supports MetalFX Upscaling, Apple's alternative to Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, so that the title can be rendered at a lower resolution and then intelligently scaled to the native resolution of the screen to improve performance.
The game runs on all Macs with the Apple M1 or newer, on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and on all iPad Pro and iPad Air models with the Apple M-series chip. The Mac version requires a 69.7 GB download, while the iPhone version is considerably smaller at 1.79 GB, which is probably mainly due to lower-resolution textures.
