About five years after it debuted on the PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding has finally landed on Xbox. After staying exclusive to the Sony platform for a while, it first made its way to PC (and even iOS). Later, it got a Director's Cut with additional cutscenes and QoL improvements. That's the version that has landed on Xbox now, which can be purchased for $40. However, the game is 50% off at the time of writing, meaning you can snag it for $20. Do note it is exclusive to the Xbox Series S|X.
Exactly why Kojima Productions waited this long to release Death Stranding Director's Cut on Xbox remains a mystery. It may have something to do with an exclusivity contract with PlayStation. However, it feels a tad too late because anyone who actually wanted to play Death Stranding probably has done so by now on PC or PlayStation. Plus, Epic Games has, on more than one occasion, given the game away for free on its platform.
This looks like a part of Kojima Production's ploy to drum up hype for the game's successor: Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. While we're yet to see a full trailer, the game is tipped for a 2025 release, giving players ample time to catch up with the plot before a (hopefully) cross-platform launch. If you're an Xbox player, do check out Death Stranding Director's Cut if you can. Once you get past walking phase, it is truly one of the most innovative games made this decade.
