Rumours of Microsoft Xbox controller 'Sebile' refresh re-emerge before alleged May announcement
Rumours about Microsoft launching a new Xbox controller have surfaced online again, four months after slides from Microsoft's Federal Trade Commission (FTC) hearing leaked online. As we discussed at the time, the slides contained not only details about an unreleased Xbox controller, codenamed Sebile, but also retailer pricing and plans for its announcement. Also, the same slides disclosed Xbox Series S and Series X refreshes, which Microsoft has codenamed Ellewood and Brooklin, respectively.
Nonetheless, The Verge's Tom Warren has drawn speculation from various outlets of the controller's imminent unveiling after making the following comment during a recent XboxEra podcast:
new Xbox controller is supposed to be announced in May, ahead of June showcase.
While this was taken as new information at first, Warren quickly clarified his source. Rather than receiving a tip from an unknown third party, Warren stated that these details were included in FTC submission slides. As the screenshot below shows, one slide shows a Sebile announcement sometime during 'FY24 Q4', which ends June 30, 2024.
Currently, Warren does not believe any of the launch information below has changed. Presumably, this extends to the controller's new features, such as its modular thumbsticks, lift-to-wake functionality and improved haptic feedback. Likewise, there is no reason to suggest that its launch price will be anything other than the $69.99 mentioned in Microsoft's leaked slides, too.
