CEO says Sony PlayStation games will expand to PC, cloud, and mobile in future

Sony PS5 (available on Amazon) sales have continued to rise since its release in 2020. Since then, there has always been the question of what the PlayStation division has in plan for the future. Well, it’s pretty clear that the team is working towards solidifying its position in the gaming landscape. But not even CEO Kenichiro Yoshida can give a definite answer to what’s in store.

However, the CEO did hint at where he sees PlayStation games going in the future. Kenichiro Yoshida said Sony PlayStation gaming experiences “will be ubiquitous,” allowing the users to play their favorite games “wherever there is computing.” The CEO further clarified that the games will expand to PC, mobile, and cloud.

On the note of cloud-based gaming, the Sony CEO believes subscription-only services for gaming aren’t the right solution for gamers. He explained that gamers generally “play one game at a time,” and he doesn’t see an “all-you-can-eat type of many games” offering as much value as video streaming services.

So, the PlayStation Network (PSN) will be implementing a “balanced or hybrid service.” There will be “a subscription as well as paid content.” In the interview, the CEO also talked about how the recent Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft will impact the future of Sony PlayStation.

While Yoshida didn’t give much away on it, he said that “healthy competition is necessary” for the growth of the gaming industry. As for Sony, it will continually work to offer PlayStation gamers “different options to play.” You can check out the entire interview from the video attached below.
