Nintendo Switch 2 Pro model with 12 GB RAM and 12 SMs hinted at in flawed Switch 2 specs leak
RedGamingTech (Paul Eccleston) is back with yet another video about the potential Nintendo Switch 2 specifications, detailing a whole list of specs that leave the purportedly upcoming hybrid console looking a little bit lightweight. The Switch 2 specs that are listed (see screenshot below), appear to come from a mix of a report from United Daily News (UDN) that was posted a couple of weeks ago and the YouTuber’s own sources. It’s worth mentioning that the specifications that were detailed in the UDN article were based on rumors themselves.
So, the Nintendo Switch 2 is now seemingly downgraded to the state that it can only offer 10 SMs (streaming multiprocessors), 8 GB of RAM, and a puny amount of 64 GB of eMMC storage. On the positive side, greater battery life and support for 120 Hz refresh rate are also included in the report from the Money section of UDN. RedGamingTech also adds further details, such as a 7-inch OLED panel, and he controversially lists “similar Switch OLED design”, which is worth keeping in mind since the Switch came out in 2017 and the OLED Model was launched in 2021 (available on Amazon for $348 at the moment).
Interestingly, there appear to be some flaws in this Switch 2 specs leak, such as the mention of A78AE cores in the expected T239 SoC. AE (“Automotive Enhanced”) cores could unnecessarily restrict a next-gen console's performance, whereas the oft-rumored A78C cores would offer more room for developers to work. Considerable design changes are likely too, and it has been stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 will probably come with an LCD screen rather than an OLED panel. But, Eccleston and his sources figure a Switch 2 Pro model could fix any disappointment gamers may have if such a tepid base system was released.
Apparently, a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro could boast of having 12 GB of RAM and 12 SMs thanks to the T239’s features being fully enabled in this particular model. It’s not too wild a thought to consider that Nintendo might launch multiple variants of its next-generation console, but it would be surprising if a base model with just 64 GB of eMMC storage and cut-down processing capabilities was part of the lineup, especially if the starting price was around $400. There is more and more handheld competition springing up in the market, so Nintendo needs to make sure its ahead of the crowd with the Switch 2, despite its legions of adoring fans who are preparing for a purchase.
