Machine Games is reportedly working on an upcoming Quake game, internally referred to as Quake 6. It is not immediately clear if it is a new entry to the franchise or a remaster.

Machine Games did an excellent job remastering Quake and Quake II. Many hope that Quake III and IV will follow suit. However, the recent Xbox Developer Direct hinted at something better: an entirely new Quake game.

A vigilant Resetera poster paused the livestream at the perfect moment to capture what looks like a whiteboard with ideas. There's a Quake logo on there with the letters "AKE 6" scrawled underneath. It was spotted during Machine Games' presentation of the upcoming Indiana Jones title. As Wccftech notes, "Quake 6" is probably an internal codename and not what it'll actually be called because the Quake Champions was internally referred to as "Quake 5".

That said, "Quake 6" could be referring to a remaster hinted at by industry insider Shpeshal Nick back in 2021. While Quake 4's ending left room for a sequel, the story has been untouched since 2005 and reviving it after 20 years will be tricky. Then again, it is the only way to keep the franchise alive, especially after Quake Champions' spectacular failure trying to pass off as an Overwatch replacement.
