id Software is looking for a features programmer with strong experience in FPS games. It could be for a new IP, or revival of an old classic, or even a new instalment in the Rage series.

id Software, best known for their Doom games, is also the studio behind the popular Wolfenstein and Quake franchises. The last Wolfenstein game came out in 2019 while the last Quake game released in 2022. The Doom series, on the other hand, has seen a more regular release cycle with Doom: The Dark Ages releasing in May this year. But now, it looks like id Software is working on a new FPS game, which fans believe could be the revival of one of the older franchises that started it all for the studio.

As spotted by Timur22 on X, id Software has a job opening for a ‘Lead Gameplay Features Programmer’ who has strong experience in first-person shooter games. The posting also states that the programmer would be working on “some of the most celebrated and popular AAA titles.” Fans suspect this could be a revival of Quake, the game that set the bar for FPS arena shooters and was the first 3D FPS game by id Software.

The job posting mentions experience with id Tech engine as a preferred skill so this game, like other id Software games, will be developed on some version of id Tech. The Studio has used this engine for all its games, and it was originally called the Quake Engine, followed by Doom Engine. Notably, console experience is also a preferred skill.

That being said, it is unclear what plans id Software has for the new Lead Gameplay Features Programmer. All games from the studio have been first person shooters, including the Rage series. This new project could also be another instalment in the Rage series as the last game came out in 2019.
