The game comes with quality of life upgrade as well as some additional levels for fans and collectors alike.

Limited Run Games has finally opened up pre-orders for the highly anticipated physical SNES release of DOOM. The project led by Randal Linden, one of the original programmers for DOOM, promises an authentic yet enhanced experience.

Pre-orders are now open for the DOOM SNES physical cartridge alongside a DOOM-themed SNES controller dubbed Hell’s Nightmare. Preorders will continue till August 8. Limited Run Games promises that this release isn't a rehash of the original game.

The game is said to feature “impossible graphics tricks” alongside additional levels that were missing from the original SNES release. Some quality-of-life improvements are making their way to the game, like circle-strafing and respawning monsters on Nightmare Difficulty.

The icing on the cake is the new Hell’s Nightmare SNES controller, with support for rumble vibration. Limited Run also stated that the rumble tech will be freely available for third-party developers hoping to update their games. According to Limited Run: “We want to see what the community can do with the tech.”

Collectors have two versions to choose from. The standard edition includes a 12 x 16 SNES poster, an SNES-themed box, and an instruction manual. Die-hard fans can opt for the Collector’s Edition. The latter features a premium embossed foil box, limited to just 666 copies, and a certificate of authenticity.

Earlier, Limited Run Games went through a difficult period as the company and its manufacturing partner, Retro-bit, had to address concerns regarding the safety of their retro cartridges. It was claimed that the cartridges could damage the original hardware amid fans complaining about paying $60 for “dirty and scuffed chips.”

Moreover, Limited Run Games faced backlash when a batch of re-released 3DO games were shipped on burnt CD-R discs instead of pressed discs, to which the company offered a public apology.

Limited Run Games continues to diversify and expand its retro catalog with a plethora of physical releases. This time around, the company seems pretty dedicated to redeeming and reaffirming its commitment to quality with the new SNES DOOM release.
