Ever since Apple introduced the $3,500 Vision Pro AR/VR headset in 2023, fans have been waiting for a cheaper alternative. It was believed that the company will be working on more affordable headset next, catering to the more mainstream audience and competing with the likes of the Meta Quest series. But that doesn’t seem to be the case as a new report suggests the Vision Pro 2 is already in production and will arrive within this year.
The report by ITHome (via Jukanlosreve on X) states that components for the Apple Vision Pro 2 headset including the panels, shells, and other key components are already in production. Citing multiple independent sources, the report mentions that the glass panels for the second-generation headset are exclusively supplied by Lens Technology while the shell is made by Changying Precision. It also notes that some other suppliers are rushing to complete orders, hinting at a 2025 release for the alleged Vision Pro 2.
It should be noted that ITHome publishes news in Chinese and this piece of information has been translated through Google Translate. There could be inconsistencies in the translation leading to some inaccuracies. That being said, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously shared that the second-generation Vision Pro headset will be powered by the M5 chip, which is said to enter production by second half of this year. This suggests the Vision Pro successor could be the first or among the first devices to come out with the M5 chip.
With Apple focusing on the alleged Vision Pro 2 for this year or early next year, a more budget-friendly headset seems even more distant. Kuo had claimed late last year that the affordable Vision Pro has been delayed beyond 2027 and that claim seems to be accurate, at this point.
