Powered by the Apple M2, the Apple Vision Pro wasn't on the technological cutting edge even at its debut in February 2024. Its lacklustre reception was due in part to its very steep starting price of $3,499. According to a recent Bloomberg report, a follow-up is expected to arrive by the end of this year, with only minor tweaks to its design and specs. Notably, Apple is said to be including a new headband aimed at improving comfort during extended use.
Although the Apple M5 is anticipated to launch in the second half of 2025, the new headset will likely still feature the Apple M4 – an ARM chip first introduced over a year ago alongside the iPad Pro (approx. $899 on Amazon). Bloomberg doesn’t expect these two enhancements to turn the Vision Pro into a commercial success. Nonetheless, when paired with software improvements in visionOS 26, the updated headset could become an attractive platform for developers and enterprise users.
For broader adoption, Apple would require a far larger app ecosystem when its consumer-focused headset launches, possibly in 2027. Codenamed “N100”, this device is reportedly much lighter and more affordable. Apple is also said to be working on a pair of display-free smart glasses equipped with speakers, microphones, cameras and, most importantly, AI capabilities.
