Vivo has now lifted the lid on its first mixed-reality headset after teasing its launch event last week. As expected, the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition, simply Vivo Vision, leans heavily on the design of Apple's Vision Pro. However, the Vivo Vision departs from its Apple counterpart in several areas, as well as the budget-orientated Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S (curr. $299 on Amazon).
According to Vivo, the Vivo Vision features Micro-OLED lenses that output at 8K and 90 Hz. Presumably, 8K combined and not per eye, these lenses are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset that debuted at the end of last year. Allegedly, this combination allows the Vivo Vision to effectively create 120-ft projections. However, Vivo has not shared any specifics in this area yet. For the time being, it has added that the headset comparatively large field of view that Vivo considers to be '180°...up and down, left and right', all within a package that weighs just 398 g.
Vivo has not confirmed availability in China yet. Instead, it has only committed to showcasing the Vivo Vision at one of its twelve authorised experience stores across its home market. While the company hopes to expand the Vivo Vision to more Chinese stores in future, it has not indicated when or if the MR headset will ever be available to purchase.
