Apple is apparently making two new variants of their Vision Pro - one will be lighter and cheaper. The other will tether to Mac with a low-latency connection to stream a user's display or connect to enterprise applications.

Apple is reportedly developing two new iterations of its Vision Pro headset. One will be lighter and cheaper, while the other will focus on enabling tethered experiences on the Mac.

The Vision Pro, launched in 2024, has been a rare commercial failure for the company and has struggled to justify its existence as a mixed-reality device. While technically impressive, its high $3,500 price tag put it out of reach of most customers, and people who bought it complained about its limited use cases. The clunky design and the 650-gram weight didn't help its cause either.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is working to address these issues with two new variants. One problem Apple faced was convincing people about the high price point, especially with affordable competition like Meta's Quest headsets. One of the new variants will address this issue with a lighter design and a more affordable price point.

The other model will focus on expanding use cases for the Vision Pro by tethering to a Mac with a low-latency connection and offering features like screen mirroring and built-in sync with enterprise applications.

According to Bloomberg insiders, Apple CEO Tim Cook wants to beat Meta by creating industry-leading Augmented Reality (AR) glasses that are light and comfortable enough to be worn all day. Apparently, Cook "cares about nothing else" and it's "the only thing he's really spending his time on from a development standpoint."

Meanwhile, Apple is also reportedly looking at interim solutions. Like Meta, who has found some success by offering glasses for taking pictures and AI, Apple is considering adding AI cameras to the Apple Watch and AirPods in the coming years.
