Some VR enthusiasts might already be familiar with the Bigscreen Beyond VR headset, and now the brand has launched a successor called the Beyond 2. This is a VR headset with a resolution of 5120 x 2560 pixels and two micro-OLED displays. The spec sheet also specifies a 90Hz refresh rate and pixel density of 32 PPD (pixels per degree).
The pupillary distance can be adjusted with a screwdriver, while other VR headsets can do this automatically. Bigscreen probably omitted this feature in order to keep the weight as low as possible, since the Beyond 2 only weighs between 3.8 and 3.84 oz, depending on the model variant.
Unlike the Pico 4 Ultra, which we have already reviewed, this is not a standalone VR headset and requires an external input. 6DoF via SteamVR is supported. As usual, VR games and other VR content requires a lot of performance, and unstable frame rates can be much more noticeable compared to regular gaming. The Beyond 2 can be hooked up to a computer via a 16ft cable.
Bigscreen has also introduced the Beyond 2e. This model variant is marginally heavier but supports eye tracking. Foveated rendering is still in development and not implemented yet, but the eye tracking can be useful for VR applications such as VRChat. The base model of the new VR headset is priced at $1,019, while the aforementioned version with eye tracking costs $1,219. Shipping is expected to kick off this July.
